December 2006 - Notice and Appeal

With all piety and bhakthi, invoking the divine blessings of Jagadguru Sri Sri Paramaacharyaal of Kanchi and bowing our heads at the feet of the omnipresent omnipotent Kailasanatha, Yagneswara Sambha Sadasivamurthy, Lord Paarvathi Parameswaran, we place this notice cum appeal to all those destined to be concerned.

Everyone is well aware of the greatness of Sri Rudram, the verses in praise and salutation of Lord Parameswara alias Sri Rudran. Chanting of Sri Rudram, verses that form the central portion of Krishna Yajur vedam is considered very auspicious and effective in invoking the blessings of the Supreme Lord. Chanting Sri Rudram at a stretch eleven times over with one chapter of Chamakam every time in between is known as "One Rudra Ekadasini" (11 times). Repeating this Rudra ekadasini eleven times is called a "Laghu Rudram" (11 x 11 = 121 times). Repeating this Laghu Rudram eleven times is called "Maha Rudram" (11x11x11 = 1331 times). 121 members usually perform "Maha Rudram", each chanting eleven times. Repeating "Maha Rudram" eleven times is called "Athi Rudram". This is normally performed by 121 members chanting Sri Rudram eleven times everyday for eleven days continuously; i.e. Maha Rudram repeated for eleven full days. (11x11x11x11 = 14641 times)

The powers and benefit of such an enviable task of participating and performing an "Athi Rudram" is beyond verbal description and it would suffice to sum it up that in our life span one should be lucky to see and participate in a AthiRudram.

Steered by divine will and Guru-krupa, it is planned to conduct such an "Athi Rudram", primarily for common well-being, general prosperity apart from promotion of world peace and harmony. This is to take place at the holy Adhishtanam of Jagadguru Sri Sri Sudharsana Mahadevendra Saraswathi, Ilaiyathankudi, between 19th and 29th of December 2006. Ilaiyathankudi is situated near Kezhaseeval Patti in Sivagangai Mavattam. By divine coincidence it starts from Anusha nakshatram two days after HH Mahaperiyaval Aradhana. It is planned to perform this Athi Rudram with vaideekas. Further this will be a stepping-stone for establishing a Chathur (4) Veda Padasala in Ilaiyathankudi near the holy Adhishtanam. A Yajur veda padasala already exists.

Table enclosed gives a gist of estimated expenses. Generous contribution from aasthikas and well wishers of this unique fete is sincerely solicited.
